Anthony “Turk” Cannon is a smooth jazz saxophonist, born and raised in St. Michaels Maryland. Anthony’s love of music began at the age of nine, when he started playing the clarinet. Years later, holding a saxophone in his hands and breathing life into smooth sounds, a spark ignited the palpable passion that flows from his horn each time he plays. Anthony conducted his formal music education at Columbia Community College, Columbia Maryland and has studied with the most influential saxophone instructors in the Baltimore and Washington DC areas. He writes, composes and is the executive producer of his original musical creations which artfully infuses the rhythms of Blues, R&B, Pop, and jazz. Anthony honed his talent during the early years of his musical career in the late 1990’s performing at open mic jazz clubs and as a sideman saxophonist with various jazz and blues bands in the Washington DC area and Los Angeles, California. He has performed at top venues in the country, including Spaghettini’s in Los Angeles CA, Blues Alley in Washington D.C, Avalon Theater in Maryland, The Freeman Pavilion in Selbyville, DE, The Tin Pan in Richmond, VA, and NAMM Music Festival in Anaheim CA. Anthony has performed with leading jazz artists in the industry – Guitarist Adam Hawley, the late Keyboardist Dawoud Said, Drummer Carl “C-man” Anderson, Guitarist Nils, Keyboardist Cal Harris, Jr., Bassist Roberto Vally, Vocalist Marc Staggers, Vocalist Vicu Scheck and Bassist Lorenzo Sands.
